Competition 1: E-waste Recycling

1. Who can participate in the electronic waste Recycling drive?
The competition is open to all students studying in Primary, Secondary and Senior schools within UAE.
2. What electronic items can be collected for recycling?
All old, unused and broken Electronic items like TVs, CD players, tablets, laptops ,mobile phones, gaming consoles, music systems, vacuum cleaners, screens, printers, old telephones, routers, set top boxes etc and household appliances such as mixers, microwaves, hand blenders, toasters, grillers etc can be all collected and submitted for recycling. Each device/appliance will be counted as 1 unit whereas all wires and chargers together will be counted as 1 unit.
The following items should not be collected as part of this drive due to their special handling and recycling requirements - batteries, bulbs, tube lights, printer toners and large appliances like washing machines and gas ovens.

3. What is the minimum number of devices to be submitted?
A minimum of 10 devices/appliances are required to be submitted to be eligible for a qualified entry into the competition. Participants submitting between 10 and 25 units will receive a Eco-Hero Green certificate and those submitting greater than 25 will receive a Eco-Champion Green Certificate.
Top 3 participants submitting the highest number of units for recycling will be declared the winners and will receive certificates and exciting prizes from our Edu-Fest sponsors Samsung and Chaloub group and others. Winners will be invited for the Gala event and Award Ceremony to be held at the end of May.

4. When and where should the E-Waste be submitted?
All collected E-Waste should be submitted / deposited at premises of our Host School - Gems Modern Academy in Nad Al Sheba on Sunday 15th May between 10 am and 2 pm. WeCareDXB Volunteers will be present on site to verify and record the items deposited in school.

5. When will the winners be declared?
Winners will be declared in the last week of May and will be announced on the WeCareDXB website, social media platforms and all winners will be intimated by email

6. What will happen to all the E-waste collected?
All the e-waste collected will be recycled in an environment friendly manner with Enviroserve in their world class recycling facility in DIP.
Competition 2: Sustainability Art

1. Who can participate in the Sustainability Art competition?
The competition is open to all students studying in Primary, Secondary and Senior schools within UAE.

2. What form of Art can be made?
Students are free to choose one of the 2 themes below to create and submit an art piece. The art piece can be in form of Painting (60 x 90 cm or 40 x 60 cms size canvas board ) or a Sculpture ( max size 30cm x 30cm x 30cm). Each submitted art piece should include a caption (max 150 words) to describe the presented art.
Theme 1: Journey of E-Waste
Theme 2: Green Future
Shortlisted entries will have their art displayed during the Gala Event and winners will receive attractive prizes.

3. How can the entry be submitted?
A photo of the art will be submitted using the below link on or before May 15th, 2022 for the first round of evaluation

The uploaded file should be in .JPEG format and should be less than 5MB and more than 1 MB. The file should be named with the participants full name (johndoe.jpeg or johndoe.jpg).
After first round of evaluation, shortlisted entries will be called upon to submit the Art pieces in original for the final round

4. When will the winners be declared?
Winners will be declared in the last week of May and will be announced on the WeCareDXB website, social media platforms. All winners will also be intimated by email. Winners will be invited for the Gala event and Awards ceremony to be held at the end of May.
5. Will I get back my submitted Art piece?
Yes, All submitted Art pieces will remain the property of the participant. The shortlisted art will be displayed in host school premises during the Gala Event and Awards Ceremony and will be handed over to the participant after the event.
Competition 3 : Sustainability Video Appeal

1. Who can participate in the Sustainability Video competition?
The competition is open to all students studying in Primary, Secondary and Senior schools within UAE.

2. What will be the content/theme of the video?
Students are invited to make videos appealing to World Leaders and Business Leaders in tech companies to address the growing problem of E-Waste and its impact on the environment.
​
3. What should be the format for the video?
The video should be maximum 1 minute and should be shot in Landscape mode, 16:9, HD Quality and in .MP4 format. The video can be shot in any phone but it is recommended to use proper microphone to ensure sound quality is clear. Students may use any graphics, and background music, images and any other tools to make their videos if required. Care should be taken that no copyrighted material will be used for which permission is not available with the user. Max File size should be 150MB

4. How should the entry be submitted?
Participants to submit their entries by uploading their videos using below link on or before 15th May 2022

All Video File should be named with Participants full name (example: johndoe.mp4). Winning videos will be played during the Awards Ceremony and also be uploaded on WeCareDXB and Enviroserve social media platforms with due credit to the winners.
5. What will be the judging criteria?
The judges will look for a creative, engaging and inspiring submission. Your entry will be judged on:

Relevance of your entry to the competition topic;

Creativity expressed.

Technical ability.

Persuasiveness of the entry.
Competition 4: Sustainability Research Paper
​
1. Who can participate in the Sustainability Video competition?
The competition is open to all students studying in Secondary/middle School and Senior schools within UAE.
2. What will be the subjects for the Research paper?
Students are invited to present their research papers of any of the below themes
A: The conflict between Profitability & Sustainability
B: Assessment of the life cycle, reverse logistics and reuse of e-waste
C: Extended producer responsibility (EPR)

3. What format should the research paper be submitted?
The research paper should be maximum 2000 words and/or max 5 pages. The paper should be submitted in .pdf format and should be written using Times Roman font , with font size of 11. Language used should be English.

4. How do I submit the Research paper?
The research paper should be submitted on the link provided below on or before 15th May 2022.
Research paper should be renamed with the full name of the participant and uploaded in PDF format.

5. How will be winners be selected?
Best 3 papers from each category -Secondary and Senior School will be selected by a panel of expert jury.
Competition 5 : Photography Competition
​
1. Who can participate in the Sustainability Photography competition?
The competition is open to all students studying in Primary, Secondary/Middle School and Senior schools within UAE.
2. What will be the theme of the photo competition?
Participants are invited to submit their photos on any of the 3 themes below

3. What are the specifications of the photograph?
Submitted Photographs should be in .JPG or .JPEG format only and have a minimum size of 1 MB and maximum size of 5MB. Each participant can only submit a maximum of 1 photograph. The Photograph must be taken by the participant and you must have all rights to it.
4. How should the photograph be submitted?
Entries to be submitted by uploading your photograph along with a caption (max 100 words) using link below
